Alabama Big Man, Javian Davis has transferred to Mississippi State
I saw this one coming made a ton of sense follow for more high-level predictions, (@sean02mtm) on Twitter. Davis returns back home to Mississippi, assuming he gets a waiver, he’ll play for Ben Howland’s squad this season.
This will be quite the interesting team in 2020, they lose a ton with Tyson Carter, Reggie Perry, Robert Woodard, and Nick Weatherspoon leaving the team but have some guys who can really step-up and be star level guys. Perry was awesome last season he averaged 17.4 points and 10 rebounds per game, he may be a first round pick, likely a 2nd rounder but it’s no shock he’s gone, neither is it with Woodard. Tyson Carter graduated so he’s gone. Then you have Nick Weatherspoon who is also gone, he may be a G-League guy but I’m not even sure he may be heading overseas and he had a season of eligibility left.
Those are huge hits but they return Iverson Molinar who I’m a big fan of and has extremely high potential. Showed many flashes last season, he only played 15 minutes per game, shot 48% from the field, 37% from three, he’s a super talented scorer. D.J. Stewart is another guy who was a Freshman last season and played nearly 30 minutes per game, he averaged 9.5 points per game and will have a much higher usage rate this season due to all the losses. Abdul Ado is an awesome defender which is his main skill, not much in the way of offense but he his 6’11 frame allows him to get some put backs and some easy baskets at the rim. He’s going to be a big piece of whatever success the Bulldogs have this season a vital piece. They have a pretty hefty recruiting class also, they bring in a guy like Deivon Smith a top-60 guy, who’s a really speedy 5’11” guard who can will run a good amount of offense this season. They add a 3-star recruits in Keondre Montgomery, Derek Fountain, Andersson Garcia, and Cameron Mathews. A ton of guys at the same position in this recruiting class, I’m assuming not all play I’m sure one may red shirt, although I think a Fountain and Mathews may spend some time at the 4 spot. Then they added a graduate transfer in Jalen Johnson, from Louisiana he had 15.5 points per game last season, but only shot 42% from the field and 28% from deep, not exactly great.
PG: Deivon Smith
SG: Iverson Molinar
SF: D.J. Stewart
PF: Jalen Johnson (Louisiana)
C: Abdul Ado
Bench: Jaivien Davis (Alabama), Quinten Post, Keondre Montgomery, Derek Fountain, Andersson Garcia
This could be an interesting team I don’t see a tournament team, but they have a ton of size with Ado, Post, Davis. If Molinar and Stewart develop the way they can then maybe a bubble team but the outlook doesn’t look great this season.
