BYU beats Gonzaga, picks up signature win of season

Provo, Utah – Coming into Saturday’s game, Gonzaga had won 40 straight games in WCC play, while the Bulldogs have also won 39 straight road games in league play. That streak was snapped as the red-hot BYU Cougars took down the Bulldogs by a Final Score of 91-78. The Cougars were in control pretty much throughout the game thanks to a red-hot 11-27 shooting from three. Yoeli Childs led the Cougars with 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Jake Toolson had 17 points and TJ Haws had 16. Killian Tillie had 18 points to lead the losing Bulldogs.

The key to the game was maintaining the lead throughout despite what the opponents did on the other side “Gonzaga is a great team,” forward Yoeli Childs said. ”They made their runs and they had great players out there making great plays, but nothing they did slowed us down. It gets me really excited for the future.”

With the season winding down the only game left for the Cougars is a meeting this upcoming Saturday at Pepperdine. Gonzaga returns for home games against San Diego and St. Mary’s next week. Following those games, the two teams will play in the WCC Tournament where the teams look poised to meet again.

Bracketology Effect: Gonzaga remains the third overall one seed in the West Region thanks to a loss by San Diego State yesterday. The Cougars essentially locked up their first bid to the Big Dance since 2015. They are a projected 6 seed in today’s Bracketology.

Betting Effect: Covered: BYU +4.5, Over 158
