ETSU beats Furman to solidify itself as the best team in SoCon

Johnson City, TN – The Southern Conference has been trending as one of the best mid-major leagues in the sport and in this game, it saw the two best teams in the league battle for first place in the league standings. Both teams played 40 minutes of high-intensity basketball but at the end of the day, it was the home Buccaneers who proved to be the best team. Isaiah Tisdale led the Buccaneers with 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Bo Hodges had 14 points and 7 rebounds. Furman star Jordan Lyons had 18 points to lead the Paladins in a losing effort.

This showcase really proved to be something of interest as much of the buzz across social media was about this game. “These were two heavyweights,” ETSU Head Coach Steve Forbes said postgame. It was a great opportunity to showcase the SoCon and a great opportunity to showcase ETSU.”

With this win the Buccaneers are now 13-2 in SoCon play, they lead by one game over UNC Greensboro and Furman who both sit at 12-3. Coming down the stretch ETSU has road games at Samford and at Wofford which both could be challenging. Furman will play Wofford at home on Saturday, before having to travel to UNC Greensboro a week from today.

Bracketology Effect: ETSU remains on the right side of the bubble following this win. They actually move up from an 11 seed to a 10 seed following this win. Furman remains backed into a corner, likely needing to win the SoCon Tournament to make the Big Dance.

Betting Effect: Covered: ETSU -5, Over 139.
