Hampton Transfer, Ben Stanley commits to Xavier.

Xavier continues to roll as this is another high-level pickup for Travis Steele. I am a huge fan of Stanley at Hampton and I watched them quite a bit this past season. He chose Xavier over Maryland, Dayton, Oregon, Illinois, and the option of returning to Hampton. Stanley averaged 22 points and 7.2 rebounds per game last season. He’s a good athlete but he’s 6’6 and a four-man /small-ball 5 but I think he will still be a big piece in the Big East. I thought Stanley was a Maryland lock, so I’m fairly shocked. I doubt he has a case for a waiver, so I’m going on the assumption he sits this season. They add Stanley along with Adam Kunkel from Belmont who both have 2 seasons left.

What a lineup in 2021-22 can look like is:

PG: Dwon Odom

SG: Adam Kunkel (Belmont)

SF: KyKy Tandy

PF: Ben Stanley (Hampton)

C: Zach Freemantle

That’s a small lineup with Tandy at the 3, so defensively they could get hurt but I think offensively this team is an absolute powerhouse. This team will be great in 2021-22. They will look to add a true wing from the portal which could even be Colby Jones or C.J. Wilcher who are 2020 recruits. I just don’t see them starting over any of the other 3. They also add Cesare Edwards a 2021 guy he’s 6’10″ and 205 pounds, so he’s a bit skinny so hopefully, in his Senior Season, he adds some weight and becomes a nice bench piece in 2021-22.

Travis Steele following this season will lose Paul Scruggs, Nate Johnson, and Jason Carter so if some of the guys who are newcomers/sit-out guys can step into a role and play it at a high level the sky is the limit for this squad. This season they lost Naji Marshall who opted to leave early along with Quinton Goodin and Tyrique Jones. It’ll be a rebuilding season for the Musketeers more than likely but I could see 2021-22 being Travis Steele’s first squad to make the NCAA Tournament since he became Xavier’s Head Coach.
