Arizona State is the PAC-12 favorites as of now but they needed depth down-low, after Romello White left for Ole Miss, and they get just that with JUCO product, Chris Osten from Lee College in Texas. Chris gave me the opportunity to speak with him via twitter (@Ctosten21). I asked Chris 5 questions and I’ll show them below.
Question: What went into the decision of starting at a JUCO rather than a university?
Answer: “I started at an NAIA in Louisiana and didn’t get the opportunity I was hoping for, then transferred to a JUCO.”
Question: You had 0 D1 offers prior to ASU calling, what was the plan if they didn’t come calling?
Answer: “To keep praying and be patient for the right opportunity.”
Question: When did Bobby Hurley get in contact with you? Was it a relieving feeling when a Major Conference D1 school wanted you to play for them?
Answer: “Coach Burno was the first to get in contact with me. Coach Hurley talked to me yesterday and I told him I wanted to be apart of the family! Great feeling knowing your hard work goes noticed, especially because of my journey and always being overlooked.”
Question: What would you consider the strengths of your game other than your 6’9 frame, what the best part of your game In your opinion?
Answer: “Athleticism, my energy and intensity, and how I take pride in my defense and go up and block shots. I have a soft touch and I finish strong around the basket with a nice mid-range to add.”
Question: What are your personal goals for the next two seasons, what are you looking to achieve?
Answer: “Make a name for myself, hopefully to get all-defensive team and most importantly to set myself up for success at the next level playing professional basketball somewhere.”
Again I’d like to Thank Chris Osten new ASU forward (@Ctosten21) for answering my questions today on his signing with Arizona State. Osten had 11 PPG and 4.9 RPG for Lee College, and will look to replicate that at Arizona State this season. Osten will likely play behind Jalen Graham and will play a vital role off the bench.
