North Carolina transfer, Jeremiah Francis a 6’3 Guard is headed to New Mexico to play for Coach Paul Weir. Francis struggled with Injuries in his career as a Tar Heel. While Francis wasn’t very good this season when healthy, UNC was not good, so it’s hard to say what a good team would’ve done, but he shot 22% from the floor and 20% from 3. Francis is a pass-first guard, that plays solid defense but to play big minutes at any D-1 school you need to be a good scorer.
Francis is from Pickerington, OH and chose New Mexico over Dayton. With him being from Ohio, rumors were swirling as to if Dayton had offered Francis. There was a report saying they had not, but that was never confirmed and quite honestly would make no sense for Francis to pick them, without an offer so I don’t buy that.
The Lobos lose, Vante Hendrix to the portal, JaQuan Lyle to graduation, Vance Jackson to Arkansas, and lead guard for this year JJ Caldwell will be gone after this season. This leaves Francis with plenty of opportunity to step up in the 2021-22 season. He should use this season off to get better shooting-wise and he keep working on strength and durability so he can stay on the floor. Overall this a solid get for the Lobos, he played at a big name school in historically the best College Hoops Conference. While he didn’t pan out there, he should fit in better at New Mexico.
