Pittsburgh has landed a commitment from Miami (Ohio) Guard Nike Sibande. This is a big get for Jeff Capel, as he gets the 6’4” guard who was seen as a heavy Alabama lean for about a month. Sibande averaged 13.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, on 44% from the field, and 32% from three last season as a Junior. Sibande is not a graduate transfer and will need a waiver from the NCAA in order to be eligible this season.
Obviously we don’t if he will be able to get a waiver to play this upcoming season but for this instance let’s assume he does. Here’s what their rotation looks like with him in the lineup.
PG- Xavier Johnson
SG- Nike Sibande (Miami (OH)
SF- Justin Champagnie
PF- Audiese Toney
C- Terrell Brown
Bench: Ithel Horton, William Jeffress Jr, Max Amadasun, John Hugley, Abduol Karim-Coulibaly, Femi Odukale, Noah Collier
Departures: Trey McGowens (Nebraska), Eric Hamilton, Ryan Murphy (Tulane)
Additions: William Jeffress Jr, Max Amadasun, John Hugley, Nike Sibande (Miami OH), Abdoul Karim-Couilbaly, Femi Odukale, Noah Collier.
Jeff Capel’s year-3 squad is pretty interesting, they definitely have the talent to make a run at an NCAA Tournament, but all the Freshman they have need to have an instant impact for their aspirations to become reality. Champagnie is an under-the-radar guy who should be on an All-ACC team this season, Xavier Johnson is a great veteran guard. Another issue is down-low, Terrell Brown has played mostly a bench role in his career, but now he should start and we’ll see how he adjusts to that. Capel is a very good coach and this team has a good chance to compete for an at-large bid.
