Coming into this year the Mountain West looked like a league that was fit to have one team dominate the league. The results ended with one team dominating the league, but instead of it being Utah State like many expected, it was San Diego State who went 17-1 in league play, en route to a Mountain West title. The Aztecs have everything you can ask for in a team, they have an elite point guard, they have plenty of shooting, and they have one of the best defenses in the sport, so the fact that they have lost one game to this point and are on the cusp of getting a one seed in the NCAA Tournament should not be surprising given the elements at play. While the Aztecs are certainly the team to beat in the league tournament, Utah State has a good chance to win the league title given their talent, plus the fact that there are no guarantees for another day with them being on the bubble. Other teams are peaking right now as well, so it could be an interesting Mountain West Tournament this year.
