In Part 1 of my top 20 Transfers article I had Olaniyi at number 8. He’s a 6’5″, 203-pound guard that averaged 18.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, he shot 43.5% from the field and 36% from three. Olaniyi entered the transfer portal earlier this week, so the decision was made in a relatively short time. He will have to Sit One year and he will play in the 2021-22 season.
The Canes might be back in the Tournament this season or at least have a decent season, Chris Lykes, Kameron McGusty, Sam Waardenburg, Nysier Brooks, and Rodney Miller Jr are all Seniors this season which is big. They also add a Top 35 prospect in Earl Timberlake. So when Olaniyi plays it’ll be with Isaiah Wong, Harlond Beverly, Anthony Walker, Earl Timberlake, and whatever pieces that they may add.
Olaniyi had been contacted by schools such as DePaul, Xavier, Nevada, Minnesota, and Arkansas, but ultimately wanted to pay for Miami. Jim Larranaga’s Tenure at Miami has been a success, as he’s made two Sweet 16’s and has had four Tournament appearances in 9 Seasons. These past two seasons have not been good though, as they have had a losing record both seasons and while he’s likely safe, this doesn’t show great program trajectory. Miami needs to turn it around and Olaniyi could help that in 2021-22.
