Games to Watch 1/20

#1 UConn #18 @ Villanova (FS1)

The number one team in the sport, UConn heads on the road to take on Villanova in a game that could provide an upset. The Huskies have won 6 straight games to earn their #1 ranking in the AP Poll and maybe more impressively have done so despite Donovan Clingan being out for five of those games. Villanova has proven they beat anyone already, notching notable wins against North Carolina, Memphis, and at Creighton but would love to add a win against the #1 team in the land. Look for a great atmosphere as Villanova hopes to pull off the upset and notch another signature win.

San Diego State @ Boise State (CBS)

Boise State is at home again after a tough loss against UNLV on Tuesday, and San Diego State comes to town. As Boise State’s home winning streak came to an end the other day, I see them getting back on track today in a very good Mountain West battle that should be very entertaining. This is a crucial game for both teams as they are both at the top of the Mountain West with Utah State, and this game not only could determine who wins the league title but could have some serious tournament implications down the line.

#20 BYU @ #25 Texas Tech (ESPN2)

BYU heads on the road to take on Texas Tech in a game that looks to be a matchup of some of the best the Big 12 has to offer. BYU is coming off a nice home win against Iowa State but now heads on the road into Lubbock, which is one of the toughest places to win. The Red Raiders are tied for first in the Big 12 but will need this game to stay in the Big 12 race, look for a close matchup with it coming down to the wire to determine who gets this critical Big 12 win.

#17 Marquette @ St. John’s (FOX)

In a battle of two of the Big East’s best teams, Marquette is heading on the road to take on St. John’s. The Golden Eagles have had a rocky start to Big East play falling to 3-3 and a loss here would all but assure that there will be a new Big East Champion. St. John’s is on track to head to the NCAA Tournament but could use a win against a really good Marquette team. Tune in to the first great game of the day.

Alabama @ #6 Tennessee (ESPN2)

In a battle featuring arguably the two best players in the SEC, Mark Sears and Alabama head into Knoxville to take on Dalton Knecht and Tennessee. Alabama is in first place in the SEC but has yet to play a game like at Tennessee thus far. Tennessee has been carried by Knecht’s 36 and 39-point performances in the last two games and now hopes he can stay hot as they take on Alabama. Look for a fun game and a great home atmosphere for this SEC heavyweight battle.

St. Mary’s @ San Francisco (CBS Sports Network)

We have a great late-night matchup between Saint Mary’s and San Francisco, both of which are 4-0 in the West Coast Conference. San Francisco, led by Jonathan Mogbo, is seeking a signature win over Saint Mary’s to move to 5-0 in conference play and alone in first place in the WCC. In what should be an intense and close game, these are two teams that could make some noise in March. Tune in to watch and see which team can take a one-game lead in the WCC title race.

#24 Iowa State @ #19 TCU (ESPNU)

Iowa State travels to Fort Worth today to face TCU in what should be a very good Big 12 battle between these two teams. Both are currently sitting at 2-2 in conference play and will be looking for a big win. Expect a very intense and fun game between two teams that are looking to move over .500 in Big 12 play.

#18 Creighton @ Seton Hall (FS1)

In a battle of some of the Big East’s best, Creighton heads on the road to take on the first-place Seton Hall Pirates. The Blue Jays are coming off a tough loss at UConn where they finished with just 48 points but are hoping to find their offense against Seton Hall. The Pirates have won 5 straight and are likely to find themselves ranked with a win today. Look for the Blue Jays to have a better performance offensively but will it be enough against a physical Seton Hall team.

Other Games to Watch

#9 Baylor @ Texas (ESPN)

#15 Oklahoma @ Cincinnati (ESPN+)

Grand Canyon @ Seattle
